The Vintage Harp Free and What's Next

Last Friday, we expanded our collection of free sample libraries with the addition of The Vintage Harp! We hope you’ll download it and discover great ways to use it. While our company was founded on jazz sample libraries, you might be surprised by this addition, but it’s not too far removed from our straight-ahead jazz roots. Iconic musicians like Dorothy Ashby brought the harp to the forefront, not only in the American Songbook but also in the groove-driven music of the 1970s. Fast-forward to the 21st century, and you’ll find the harp making its mark in Hip-Hop beats.

We designed The Vintage Harp to be highly playable, offering two release options: 1. use the sustain pedal just like a piano, or 2. adjust the sustain to create longer notes that naturally decay to match the mood. True to our philosophy, we aim to create sample libraries that don’t sound like typical sample libraries. This approach incorporates real-world microphone and recording techniques that range from enchanting to eccentric. You’ll find rich mono tape tones and a built-in delay effect to enhance the overall vibe.

At lower volumes, the tone is smooth, rich, and mellow, exuding a calming warmth without any harshness. As the volume increases, the sound becomes more vibrant, with a bright, lively edge—each note feels distinct and “plucky,” adding energy and emphasis. This broad dynamic range allows for significant emotional contrast, with soft, rounded lows and punchy, textured highs, making it ideal for expressive, nuanced performances.

Teaser Alert! The Vintage Harp Free serves as a segue to our upcoming line of smart instruments designed for film and media composers, as well as classical composition, while still appealing to our core user base.
